Quitting Tips
...because it takes more than Seed Straws to quit smoking.
If there were a silver bullet to quit smoking, no one would smoke. It takes a combination of strategies to overcome the habit. With that in mind, here's all our best stop-smoking advice.
Got a strategy that worked for you? Let us know and we'll add it here!
Write a Quit List
Write down all the reasons you want to quit smoking — everything you hate about cigarettes and all the things you can do once you quit. Carry it in your Seed Straws box. Read it when you need it.
Talk to your doctor
A doctor, therapist, or other healthcare professional can offer personalized advice and support. Counseling can help you develop coping strategies, identify triggers, and change your habits.
Set a quit date
Don't set it too soon... or too far in the future. Choose a date when you won't have too much on your plate. Give yourself time to get used to the idea of quitting and make preparations for your new lifestyle.
Tell *everyone* you're quitting
Your family, coworkers, social media feed, the server at your favorite restaurant — accountability helps, and so does the support of your network!
Identify your triggers
If you know which situations make you want to smoke, you can avoid them, change them, or show up prepared with a pack of Seed Straws.
Offered through the American Lung Association, this comprehensive course offers coaching, information, and a community of fellow quitters.
Ask someone to be your lifeline
Who in your circle (maybe a former smoker?) would commit to being your go-to person for support during those first few challenging weeks?
Download an app or join an online support group
These resources can provide you with a sense of community, encouragement, and advice from others who are going through the same thing.
Adopt new hobbies
What's something you're interested in that won't remind you of smoking? Bonus points if it occupies your hands or you can't smoke while you're doing it!
